CHIA: THE FULL STORY

Chia seeds are one of the world’s oldest sources of nutrition, documented to have been eaten by the ancient Aztecs and Mayans as early as 3500 BC. Derived from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, chia seeds offer the highest combined plant source of omega-3, fibre and protein, alongside a range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.  Chia offers essential wholefood nutrition that is often lacking in the modern diet. Adding a tablespoon of chia to your daily diet delivers 3g of omega-3 ALA and 6g of dietary fibre. Chia also a fantastic source of vegetarian protein, containing all nine essential amino acids. Chia seeds can be either black or white, but never brown. There is no nutritional difference between black and white chia, however brown chia is immature and should not be eaten. At The Chia Co, we are committed to improving the health & well being of the global community by making the nutrition in chia available to everyone, every day. We are passionate about the positive role Chia can play in people’s lives. Because of this, Chia is all we do:  we focus on growing the best quality chia and making the best quality Chia based products. Our farms are located exactly 15 degrees from the equator, the perfect latitude required to provide the ideal amount of sunlight to grow chia rich in omega-3 oils. All chia seeds produced by The Chia Co are sustainably grown, certified non-GMO and can be traced back directly to the paddock on which it was grown.

CHIA: HEALTH BENEFIT

As the highest combined plant source of omega-3, fibre and protein, alongside a range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, chia offers essential wholefood nutrition that is often lacking in the modern diet. The health and wellness benefits are far reaching, from increased energy levels and improved digestive health, to helping promote healthy skin, hair and nails. The hydrophilic quality of chia seeds means they absorb up to 16 times their weight in liquid, which can lead to increased satiety and also helps your body regulate hydration and electrolytes. The protein in chia contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a ‘complete’ protein. This is incredibly rare for a plant based source of protein. Amino acids are the building blocks of our bodies, and are essential for healthy muscles, hair, skin and nails.

CHIA: NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Chia is the highest plant based source of omega-3, dietary fibre, protein and antioxidants. Chia seeds can be either black or while, but should never be brown. Black and white chia seeds are nutritionally identical, differing only in the color of their seed coat. If chia seeds appear brown however it’s an indication of immaturity and low nutritional quality. We guarantee the nutritional profile of every chia seed we produce. We let our chia ripen naturally in the sun and using gravity fed irrigation to ensure our crops grow to the best of their ability.

Our Chia seeds contain:
37% Dietary Fibre
20% Omega 3 ALA
20% Protein

The protein in chia contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a ‘complete’ protein. This is incredibly rare for a plant based source of protein, and makes chia particularly beneficial for vegetarians and vegans. Amino acids are the building blocks of our bodies, and are essential for healthy muscles, hair, skin and nails.

Omega-3 is a vital nutrient for brain function and overall health and vitality, while chia’s high levels of both soluble and insoluble fibre can aid digestion, helping you to feel fuller for longer and can also help maintain healthy levels of cholesterol.

Our Chia seeds are a gluten-free wholefood, too.

The term ‘wholefood’ refers to foods that are unprocessed and unrefined. Chia is one of few grain-like seeds that can be eaten completely in its natural state – no grinding, no cooking and no processing.

Wholefoods are beneficial as they contain high concentrations of complex micronutrients, antioxidants, fibers and many other phytochemicals which are often missing from processed foods. Diets rich in wholefoods have been identified as protective against chronic diseases including cancer, due to the synergy of antioxidants and phytochemicals.

We choose our ingredients carefully.

When developing our ready-to-eat product line our commitment to global health remains a driving factor. Coconut oil and coconut milk is used to give our products a creamy dairy-free texture, while providing vital healthy fats which assist with fuelling our muscles and brain. All our products are proudly dairy-free, vegan and non-GMO.
